less of me // more of You

This is interesting when juxtaposed with yesterday's post in that people (the ones posting comments) recognize the importance of family but don't see that connected in any way to the sacredness of sex. Saving the "American family" must include discouraging premarital sex.
What astonishes me the most is all the people who say, "Come on, there's no point in teaching abstinence, kids are going to do it anyway." If that is the expectation on this generation, then it will certainly come to pass.
My parents never conveyed to me an expectation that I would inevitably have premarital sex. In all of our discussions, no one ever even allowed for the possibility. It was simply unacceptable and not going to happen. That's a different kind of expectation, and it leads to a different mindset. It may be more difficult to teach abstinence, but it is infinitely valuable to teach patience, commitment, and obedience to God.
Is this a self-righteous and condescending rant against others? I hope you don't see it that way. My point is simply that it is a heinous lie and exceptionally poor parenting to tell kids that they will inevitably succumb to the lusts of their bodies, but it's okay as long as they use a condom.
